Frequently Asked Questions

Project Process & Timeline

How long does a typical countertop project take?

3-5 days to schedule template, and 7 business day turnaround from template to install. Some projects may take longer based on complexity, and will be communicated every step of the way.

Several factors can impact timing, including material availability, custom edge profiles, complex layouts, and coordination with other contractors. We communicate any potential delays promptly and work to minimize impact on your overall project schedule.

Our team maintains regular communication throughout your project, providing updates on fabrication progress and installation scheduling. If any unexpected issues arise, we address them promptly with clear communication about solutions and timeline impact.

Vein Matching & Stone Appearance

Can you perfectly match veins across seams?

While we use advanced technology and expert layout techniques to achieve the best possible vein matching, perfect alignment isn’t always possible. We prioritize vein matching in the most visible areas and show you layout drawings for approval before cutting begins.

Several factors can impact vein matching, including slab layout restrictions, unpredictable veining patterns, material thickness variations, and interaction with backsplash materials. These are industry-standard limitations that affect all fabricators.

Natural stone materials like granite, marble, and quartzite feature unique characteristics that create their beauty. Color variation, mineral deposits, natural fissures, and pattern irregularities are normal and expected – these are authentic markers of genuine natural stone, not defects.

Fireplace Applications

Can quartz be used for fireplaces?

Engineered quartz can be used in fireplace applications where combustible materials are allowed, such as surrounds and hearths in low-heat applications. However, always consult with your fireplace manufacturer or contractor before determining if quartz is appropriate for your specific design.

Direct exposure to high heat can damage quartz surfaces. Proper planning and professional guidance are essential for fireplace applications. We work closely with contractors to ensure safe installations with appropriate clearances and heat protection measures.

Structural Support

When do countertops need additional support?

Large overhangs, breakfast bars, kitchen islands, and certain undermount sink configurations may require steel brackets for proper support. Our team identifies these situations during templating and provides appropriate solutions.

The type and amount of support often cannot be determined exactly until our technician is on-site for field measurement. Our experienced team provides honest assessment of support requirements and works with your contractor to ensure proper installation.

Care & Maintenance

How do I care for quartz countertops?

Quartz requires minimal maintenance. Clean regularly with mild soap and water, avoid harsh chemicals, and use cutting boards to prevent surface damage. While quartz is stain-resistant, prompt cleanup of spills helps maintain optimal appearance.

Natural stone countertops require periodic sealing to maintain stain resistance and optimal performance. We provide specific care instructions for your stone type, including recommended sealers and maintenance schedules when we complete your installation.

Remnants & Materials

Do you have remnant materials available?

Yes, we maintain a wide selection of remnants with live inventory updated on our website. We recommend checking our online inventory at westernartisan.com/remnants/ before visiting to narrow your search and prepare for your appointment. Use our website’s Min. Length & Min. Width, and other filter tools to filter options that will work for your project.

Absolutely! We encourage visits by appointment, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Remnants are stored in our outdoor slab yard, so weather conditions may affect your experience. For safety reasons, please don’t bring pets or children to the facility.

Remnant materials are sold as-is and priced by the square foot. Since remnants are leftover pieces, they may have natural variations, light scratches, discoloration, or other small imperfections

If a sold remnant is deemed unusable due to hidden damage, we cannot replace the remnant with a full slab of the same color, and the customer will need to re-select another remnant from our available inventory instead.
